[Montreal, PQ], February 26, 2015 — Just For Laughs and the International Academy of Web Television (IAWTV) have teamed up for the fifth edition of Beyond the Box: Playing It Short, a pitch competition for web series creators held during ComedyPRO, the industry section of the annual Montreal Just For Laughs Festival, presented by Videotron in partnership with Loto-Québec.
Beyond the Box: Playing It Short is looking for digital-first programs with episode durations of no more than 15 minutes.
Scripted, animated, factual, variety, and sketch pitches are all acceptable, but they must be short-form series concepts targeted at digital video platforms.
The deadline for entries is midnight on May 8, 2015. (PT).
During the 2015 edition of Just For Laughs ComedyPRO, finalists will present their pitches to a jury of industry professionals on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at the Hyatt Regency Montreal. Senior executives from Cracked, CollegeHumor, Fullscreen, Funny or Die, Maker Studios, Yahoo, and YouTube have previously served on the jury.
Beyond the Box: Playing It Short is quickly becoming a magnet for up-and-comers as well as video stars like Epic Lloyd (Epic Rap Battles), who took part last year.

Participants in Beyond the Box: Playing It Short in the past haven’t gone home empty-handed. Defy Media has offered Nadine Djoury and Aurora Brown an option for their online series Newborn Moms, which they won last year. Mark Little and Daniel Beirne, the 2012 champions, have signed a development agreement with Cracked.com. SOS: Save Our Skins, a Canada-UK co-production that premiered at ComedyPRO, is currently in pre-production for a second season with BBCWorldwide and Hollywood Suite.
